SIMPLE FALL DECOR

Halloween and Fall are my favorite time of year. I love my pumpkin spice lattes, the cooler weather, the hues of the season and every fashion item associated with Fall. I miss my cardigans and boots. Even though the weather hardly changes here in Hawaii, and I would look ridiculous going out in a cozy sweater, I still want to make our home feel like Fall.

I recently went through all of our holiday decorations and got rid of a lot. I tried to only keep the pieces that meant a lot to me and make me happy. Everything else went. My goal was to be able to decorate with less and have most of the pieces transition from Halloween to Thanksgiving. By doing this it reduced the visual heaviness from the space and reduced items that need to be stored away. I ended up getting rid of a tote full of decorations.

I have come to the point where I don’t really buy new decorations for the holidays anymore. As I’m getting older I’ve noticed that I like to decorate very simply and not have it be too cluttered. I try to have our everyday decorations be simple enough that small pieces can be added to the space and our everyday items don’t have to be swapped out. Everything can just complement each other.

Most of our Halloween decorations are from when I was little. My mom gave them to me to enjoy with my kids. The little ones love the spooky Halloween tree and the haunted house. They played with that house for hours the day I pulled it out. My mom got the Halloween tree from Harris’ department store back in the early 90s. It’s one of my treasured decorations and now my children love it too.

The only new item I bought this year was the wooden pumpkin banner from the Target Dollar Spot. I absolutely love it. Pumpkins are my all time favorite during the season! Some paper bats would be nice though; I might have to make some for our living room wall.
