FIVE RANDOM FACTS

Since this is one of my first post, I figured I would write a few fun/random facts about me…

  1. I am an Air Force brat and come from a big Air Force family. Both of my grandfathers retired from the AF and all my uncles from both side of my family were AF. All of my aunts from both sides married someone in the AF as well. The military is such a big part of my identity and who I am, it’s all I’ve ever known. I ended up marrying into the Army and now have three Army brats of my own. It’s different than what I grew up in but I love it just the same.

  2. I am a FIDM graduate. I absolutely loved my time at FIDM. Before I started attending I ended up winning a Star Wars scholarship from the school and got a full ride. Yes, you read right, a Star Wars scholarship. I was one of five winners nation wide to win. The category I won was Future Visual Designer of Tomorrow from the FIDM National Scholarship Competition. Winning that scholarship changed my entire future. At the time I won I was a single teenage mom and going to community college. I didn’t know how I was going to afford to further my education. I never thought in a million years I would win, but I did! If you are thinking of going to FIDM, I would highly recommend entering! I ended up majoring in Visual Communications but really loved the graphic design aspect of it. So I ended up getting by Bachelors in Graphic Design and became a full time designer.

  3. I love history and genealogy. I’ve always been told I am half Puerto Rican and half Irish/Scottish. But I recently did an AncestryDNA kit and I found out I’m 46% British from my dad’s side and almost a quarter French from my mother’s Puerto Rican side. One of my last names is French and one of my family members came to Puerto Rico directly from France. I need to do more research as to who that actually was but I didn’t realize how big the percentage was. It might actually be some from my dad’s side as well. Also, being English came out of nowhere! I now know why I have such a deep love for Downton Abbey and the Royal family. Just kidding… sort of. I would love to do a post about this in the future and explore what I find about my family history.

  4. Disneyland is my happy place. We LOVE it! Originally being from Southern California, I grew up going to Disneyland every year. Once I was in college we got passes and would go all the time. Even though we don’t live in SoCal anymore, we still make time to come out and go with all our family. It’s not just big to us but to my extended family as well. I also love getting to see the kids discover Disneyland for themselves; it truly is magical!

  5. And lastly, I am a small business owner. My company is called One Another Paper and focuses on greeting cards, paper goods and prints. One line of my greeting cards is called Letters of Love and specializes in cards for military deployments and care packages. They are great for long distance relationships too. I originally designed these cards in 2011 for one of my college classes and ended up designing more a few years later to send to my husband while he was deployed. You can see them here.

Well that a little bit about me. Thanks again for stopping by!
